With the increase in food scandals, many people are being prompted to start blogging on animal welfare. There have been so many food scandals over the  past four years, related to people eating poisoned animal products and end up being hospitalized or even death. This has raised alarm among the Kenyan bloggers and nowadays, you will find so many articles related to animal welfare. Examples include the following from our Daily papers;

DAILY NATION- OCTOBER 4, 2016

By Eric Wamanji

‘’If you wish to lead a miserable life in Nairobi, think about food.

For instance, is the tomato you pick up at the grocery safe? And what of milk? Could it be laced with aflatoxin, a carcinogen?

And beef? Is it compromised through feeds or jabs? This and many other questions have turned eating from thrill to torment. ‘’

DAILY NATION- March 4, 2018

By Jacqueline Kubania

‘’The chicken served at some popular fast food cafes in Nairobi could be laced with a toxic cocktail of bacteria and in some cases, chemicals that could cause cancer.

Tests commissioned by the Nation show that the ready-to-eat chicken is contaminated with bacteria such as E.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, enterobacteriaceae and coliforms.

It also tested positive for sodium metabisulphite, a preservative that scientists have said causes cancer if consumed in large amounts.’’

Informal food system should not have to pay the price for failure of formal system

‘’Seemingly, it had to take two Cabinet Secretaries contracting cholera in the course of duty for the Ministry of Health to act. But one wonders why ‘informal’ food sellers in vibanda [food stalls] and hawkers selling boiled eggs and Smokie sausages—who have not been implicated in the recent cholera outbreaks—must pay the price for the failure of Weston Hotel and KICC management to maintain food safety assurance systems.’’
