The Need to Establish Community Vet Clinics

In a third world country like Kenya, we do not have well established vet clinics meant for animals. As compared to the numerous vet clinics that the government has established in favor of humans, well equipped vet clinics should also be put into place to ensure that the lowly income animal owner is able to access treatment for their animals just in case they fall sick.

Unaffordable treatment

In many parts of the country, many farmers come animal owners find themselves in difficult situations when their animals are ailing. Most are unable to afford the treatment by veterinarians that are associated with very high costs. It would hence be of essence if the government built up community vet clinics and subsidized the costs.

The spread of rabies

The fatal disease; rabies is not a new occurrence in a country like Kenya. Many victims of rabies get bitten by rabid dogs not because the owners of those dogs have neglected them, but because they cannot afford the costly vaccine rabies. Hence if the government made a decision to establish community vet hospitals, these vaccines will be readily available to the pet owners, minimizing deaths associated with rabies.

A healthy human -animal relationship

Establishment of community vet hospitals will ensure that animals co- exist peacefully with people in the community without any attack of diseases, and that will further encourage a healthy human – animal relationship.
