There is lots of scientific evidence that animals are sentient beings, hence the need for humane education to sensitize people to change people’s behavior on how they treat animals.
Humane education is the building block of a humane and ethically responsible society. This helps develop a deep feeling for animals, based on empathy, understanding and respect.
It starts at childhood
There is a huge link between childhood cruelty and animal cruelty. How you treat a child at their early stages of life greatly determines how they relate with those around them and even animals. Humane education then is capable of breaking the cruelty cycle and replace it with that of compassion to animals and personal responsibility.
World Animal’s Protection approach
As part of humane education, World Animal Protection has been involving young children in schools by educating them on simple animal issues. For Instance in Makueni county, they have been training children at primary school level on how to take care of animals at homes. This could be in terms of feeding them, watering them, providing proper shelter and cleaning their habitats.
