In the current World, animal welfare is not placed as a priority issue. It is seen as a thing of the west, because as it is the norm of Africans, not many people are concerned with the welfare of animals. If a percentage were to be interviewed on why they kept animals, it would be for food; not because we are supposed to take it as our responsibility to take care of animals and their welfare.
Economic development
To achieve development in our country and push our economy forward, there must be a cordial relationship in the limelight, between humans and animals. A cordial relationship will translate into high productivity for the animals. This will in turn lead to high rates of good animal health, poverty reduction and food insecurity reduction.
Adoption of animal welfare strategies
With the increase of adoption of animal welfare strategies set by the OIE, people are starting to adopt animal welfare as an issue of priority. OIE has established a role in setting global standards for Animal Health in dissemination of information, in helping countries to develop state veterinary services and fostering International cooperation.
Political awareness and legislation
In many countries, Animal welfare has been included in the constitution. For instance, in Kenya, CAP 360 clearly states that cruelty to the animals is a crime, punishable in a court of law.

Veterinary and Agricultural extensions
There has also been an increase in field extensions to communities, to help educate them on animal welfare. Most of the communities do not understand what animal welfare entails. To them, feeding and watering the animal frequently is enough, but there is more into that.
There are several animal welfare organisations that have been at the forefront in educating communities on good animal welfare. Since their existence, animal owners are responding well by translating what they learn from these organisations on their animal farms.
